Raleigh’s newest upgrade, at the edge of the historic Warehouse District, is underway! "Union Station" – Raleigh’s new Multi-Modal Transit Center, a joint initiative of NCDOT’s Rail Division and the City of Raleigh, will move the railroad corridor forward. The “Viaduct Building” and “Plaza Canopy” are some of the main features of the new transit station, behind the vision of Clearscapes and lead architect, Steve Schuster. The new “Viaduct Building” is going to be a re-use of the existing Dillon Supply Building, a 56’ wide x 300’ long x 45’ tall structure, and will add new retail and commercial offices, along with three levels of restaurants, shops and offices. The visitors will have rooftop views of Raleigh’s downtown skyline, while “honoring the City’s railroad heritage” in this existing space.
“Creating great public spaces, both interior and exterior, are significant goals for this project. That is very much in line with having this facility be authentic, memorable, and unique. We were pleased when the national Amtrak architect spent the day with us reviewing the project and remarked at the end of the day that the Raleigh Union Station is, in his view, the most exciting rail station project happening in the nation.” -Steven D. Schuster, FAIA
